Anne Hathaway has joined Zendaya as one of only two women in history to star in three films that reached No. 1 at the domestic box office in the United States and Canada, within the same calendar year.
Hathaway reached the milestone over the weekend as Amazon MGM’s psychosexual thriller "Verity" debuted at the top spot with $32.6 million in North American ticket sales.
The adaptation of the bestselling Colleen Hoover novel follows Hathaway's earlier 2026 box office triumphs, which include the legacy sequel "The Devil Wears Prada 2" and Christopher Nolan’s historical epic "The Odyssey."
Zendaya established the benchmark earlier in the year. Her run began in April with the release of A24’s romantic drama "The Drama," followed by back-to-back summer releases with "The Odyssey" and Marvel Studios' "Spider-Man: Brand New Day."
Box office analysts attribute the milestone to a resurgence in star-driven theatrical releases and strategic studio scheduling. Both actors demonstrated rare cross-genre pull, leading high-concept original dramas while anchoring major studio tentpoles.
Hathaway’s "Verity" outperformed industry tracking, easily topping the chart ahead of holding titles like "Resident Evil" and beating out competing new releases.
Together, Hathaway's three top-charting titles have generated over $2.5 billion in global ticket sales this year.
