Eleven people were killed and 27 others injured Sunday when a tour bus collided with a truck near the Akhisar toll gates on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway in Türkiye's western Manisa province, according to the Manisa Governor's Office.
The governor's office said authorities received a report of the crash at 11:11 a.m. near the Akhisar highway entrance.
The tour bus, with license plate 16 AED 124, was traveling from Bursa toward Izmir and was headed to Pamukkale in Denizli.
Large numbers of ambulances, fire crews, police and other emergency teams were dispatched to the scene, and the injured were taken to hospitals.
"Health and rescue teams were directed to the scene, and efforts to rescue our citizens affected by the accident were quickly launched," the governor's office said.
Manisa Governor Vahdettin Ozkan visited the crash site and received information from officials.
Ozkan said the bus was carrying 34 passengers and three crew members, while the truck had one driver.
He said 11 people were killed and 27 injured. Of the injured, 16 were transported to hospitals under yellow-code classification, nine under green code and one under red code.
Ozkan said the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), fire, health and gendarmerie teams had reached the scene in a coordinated response and that work at the crash site was continuing under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci earlier put the preliminary toll at 11 dead and 26 injured, saying AFAD, police, gendarmerie, fire and 112 emergency health teams had been rapidly deployed and that authorities were closely following the response.
Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran offered condolences to the families and relatives of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
