Seven people were killed and 16 others were injured after a passenger minibus and a car collided in Türkiye’s southeastern Gaziantep province, according to local authorities.
The crash occurred near Acaroba on the rural section of the Gaziantep-Osmaniye highway, where the minibus collided with the car before overturning.
Emergency medical teams, gendarmerie, firefighters and AFAD, Türkiye’s disaster management agency, were dispatched to the scene following the crash. The injured were taken to hospitals across the city.
Gaziantep Deputy Governor Ilker Eker, who received information from officials at the scene, attributed the crash to an improper overtaking maneuver by the car driver.
"The cause of the accident is that the car driver improperly overtook, first collided with the bus and then the car overturned. Our traffic teams and relevant units are continuing their work at the moment," Eker said.
"Unfortunately, seven citizens, including the car driver and all those inside the car, lost their lives. All of the injured were on the bus and, thankfully, none of them is in serious condition. All of them have light or moderate injuries and their treatment is continuing."
The Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that seven people were killed and 16 injured in the crash.
The office assigned one deputy chief prosecutor and two prosecutors to oversee the investigation, adding that judicial proceedings were continuing “in all aspects and with due sensitivity.”
The crash comes just over a month after a minibus overturned in Diyarbakır on Aug. 15, killing seven people and injuring nine.
