Arzu Celep, an 80-year-old woman whose home was damaged in a forest fire in the Cine district of Aydin, is anxiously awaiting news of her dog "Kara," who went missing during the blaze.
The fire that broke out in the Kavsit area of the Cine district on July 30 has largely been brought under control. Some residents affected by the fire lost their homes, while others lost dozens of trees in their gardens to the flames.
The home of 80-year-old Arzu Celep, who lives with her daughter, was also damaged in the fire. In addition to the belongings in her house, the trees in her garden and the feed she had stored for her animals were rendered unusable in the blaze. But Celep's greatest sorrow was losing her beloved companion, a dog named "Kara."
The elderly woman was in the district center when the fire broke out and could not reach her home because of the flames engulfing the area. After the fire in the region was brought under control, she made her way back home. But she was devastated to find no sign of "Kara," the dog that had been her companion for years.
Celep has had no news of her dog for two days and continues to watch for her return.
Speaking to reporters, Arzu Celep said she was heartbroken over not being able to find her dog, saying, "I'm very sad; I'm in mourning every day; I cry. Find my dog; I don't want anything else. I'm in grief until morning."
Describing how she was in the district when the fire broke out and could not reach her home because of the flames, Celep said: "People helped out here. I had animals too; they got them out. When I first heard about the fire, I thought my dog had burned. When I arrived, the neighbors said, 'We let your dog loose. 'I don't know if my dog suffocated in the smoke or what happened to it.''
''She was everything to me. Even if they offered me a trillion for my dog, it wouldn't mean anything to me. I had feed for my animals; my hay burned. My vegetables burned. Do you see the state of my trees? My huge trees burned. I'm left like this... I have neither my dog nor my food," she added.
