Türkiye's Transportation and Infrastructure Ministry has announced free travel on several urban rail lines in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir on July 15, the country's Democracy and National Unity Day.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said in a written statement that ministry-affiliated urban rail lines in the three cities will operate free of charge for the day.

In Istanbul, the Marmaray line, the Sirkeci-Kazlicesme rail line and the Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport-Arnavutkoy metro line will be free.

In Ankara, the Baskentray line will offer free service, while in Izmir, the IZBAN line will do the same.

Separately, the ministry noted that free travel on the Halkali-Arnavutkoy metro line, in effect since June 20, will continue through July 31.
