An Iraqi diplomat living in Istanbul reported that two babysitters left her home without permission and took $130,000 in cash.
The incident occurred in a luxury residence in Balmumcu in the Besiktas district. The diplomat identified as Rania K. employed Luisa P. aged 26 and Upi J. aged 24 for more than a year. She said she trusted them with her children and supported them throughout their employment.
In her statement, Rania K. said, “I entrusted my children to them with complete peace of mind. I provided every form of support. Despite this, they left my children alone in their rooms and escaped with my cash. They also made baseless accusations. What I experienced has been the greatest disappointment of my life.”
Police opened an investigation after the complaint. Officers located the suspects and took them into custody. Courts later ordered their detention. Legal proceedings continue.
After the theft allegation emerged, the babysitters filed a complaint at the prosecutor’s office.
They alleged that the diplomat had subjected them to violence. Sabah and TGRT Haber reported that investigators determined these claims were intended to conceal the theft.
Rania K. also described the length of the working relationship. She said, “Upi worked with me for 11 months and Luisa for 16 months. I always treated them well and provided both material and emotional support.”
Investigators concluded that the violence allegations did not match the findings of the case. The suspects remain in detention as judicial proceedings move forward.
