The Bamako Expo Fair (BAMEX’25) opened Tuesday in Mali’s capital, showcasing the capabilities of Türkiye’s defense industry in an event exclusively featuring Turkish companies.
Organized under the leadership of Türkiye’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the fair runs through Nov. 14 at the Bamako Fair and Exhibition Center. Major Turkish defense firms such as Baykar, Aselsan, Roketsan, MKE, STM, Kalekalip, Sarsilmaz, Akdas Firearms, and others are participating.
Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga addressed the opening ceremony, highlighting Africa’s growing security and geopolitical challenges. He said terrorism on the continent has evolved, no longer confined to conventional weapons but increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence, encrypted networks, and digital platforms.
“Security is no longer a choice but a necessity,” Maiga said. “Success against terrorism requires autonomous security architecture and collective efforts. We will resist and eradicate it.”
Maiga praised Türkiye’s role, noting it is among the world’s leading defense exporters and that its companies are recognized for reliable, advanced military technologies.
He said the fair serves as an international platform to build a more secure and sovereign Africa.
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mali Efe Ceylan said the event reflects Mali’s growing role on the international stage and Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening defense ties.
“This fair shows Türkiye is a reliable partner for Mali,” Ceylan said. “We will continue to support Mali in its fight against terrorism.”
He also noted that bilateral cooperation is expanding beyond defense to include trade and education.
