Cleanup and damage assessment operations began in Karasu district of Sakarya following heavy rainfall that caused stream overflow and flooding.
Stream overflow caused by heavy rainfall affecting Sakarya for two days left parts of Daricayiri neighborhood in Karasu district submerged, with excavators and tractors providing passage through flooded streets.
Teams from Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality and Karasu Municipality deployed heavy equipment in Daricayiri, where intense precipitation on Monday and Tuesday swelled the creek and triggered water inundation.
Work crews continued removing debris while simultaneously conducting cleanup operations throughout the area. Teams repaired damaged roads while sanitizing main avenues, side streets, and public institutions.
Staff from the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change launched damage assessment efforts.
Mukhtar Ahmet Demiral told Anadolu Agency that the region experienced its heaviest rainfall in recent years, thanking all teams responding to the disaster-scale situation.
Demiral noted that floodwaters had receded and work continued, adding that damage surveys had commenced.
