A Turkish television actor known to international audiences through exported drama series has been detained as part of a wider drug investigation in Istanbul.
Dogukan Gungor, who plays Fatih in the popular TV series "One Love" (also known as Cranberry Sorbet), was taken into custody on Jan. 5 as part of an ongoing probe into alleged drug-related activities involving figures from the media, arts, and business sectors.
The investigation is Istanbul-centered and has already led to the detention of multiple high-profile individuals. Some detainees were released after giving statements and undergoing tests, while others were formally arrested.
Authorities have not released detailed accusations against Gungor. Turkish media reports say further information is expected as the investigation continues.
The case forms part of a broader operation that has drawn attention because of the range of public figures involved.
The investigation has previously led to the detention of well-known names from television and journalism. Some suspects were released after procedural steps, while others were remanded in custody.
Those arrested earlier in the same investigation include Haberturk TV Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Akif Ersoy and news anchor Ela Rumeysa Cebeci.
Officials have not provided a detailed public briefing on the scope of the operation or the specific charges under review. Media outlets describe the process as ongoing, with additional developments expected.
Dogukan Gungor was born in Ankara on July 1, 1996. He studied acting at Beykent University and worked in both classical and modern theater. His stage work included productions such as "Othello", "Bizim Koyun Adeti" (Our Village's Custom) and "Hic Kimsenin Oykusu" (No One's Story).
He began his television career in 2018 with the series "Meryem" and gained wider recognition in 2020 through his role as Hamit in "Zumruduanka" (Phoenix). His broader breakthrough came with "One Love", where his portrayal of Fatih made him a prominent figure among younger actors in Türkiye’s television industry.
The series has reached international audiences through overseas distribution. As a result, developments involving its cast draw interest beyond Türkiye.
At this stage, authorities have not announced formal charges against Gungor and the investigation remains ongoing.
