A Daesh suspect was killed, and his wife was captured wounded after they clashed with police special operations teams during an operation in Ankara, security sources said Wednesday.
The operation took place Tuesday morning in the Sazagasi neighborhood of Haymana district.
According to information obtained, Police Special Operations teams raided an address where Daesh member M.K. and his wife, N.K., were located.
A clash broke out after the suspects opened fire on security forces during the operation. M.K. was killed in the ensuing clash, while N.K., who was also identified as a member of the organization, was captured wounded.
It later emerged that so-called Daesh leader Ismael J.K.A. had allegedly given instructions for an attack in Türkiye to Daesh member Muhammed K. via TikTok.
According to information obtained, Muhammed K., who was killed in the operation, was in contact with Ismael J.K.A. through the social media platform.
Authorities determined that Muhammed K. had two TikTok accounts. Through an account bearing his own name, he allegedly participated in a chat environment linked to a magazine operating within Daesh.
He was also found to have been in contact with organization leaders through a "secret" TikTok account using the username "sfyn.b..uyeyne."
Security measures have been raised to the highest level by the Ankara Provincial Security Directorate ahead of a summit to be held in the capital on July 7-8.
A total of 56,288 security personnel, including 48,841 police officers and 7,447 gendarmerie personnel, will be deployed for the NATO summit in Ankara.
According to a statement by the Ankara Police Department, high-level measures have begun under the "Operation Turkuaz" plan prepared for the summit.
The statement said checks at city entrances and exits had been increased, while patrols and inspections had been intensified in nine districts across the province.
Teams have been assigned to areas designated as NATO duty zones. Work targeting suspicious individuals and vehicles has been planned on a 24-hour basis in those areas.
Security measures along key routes have been reinforced with special operations teams, motorcycle police units, narcotics and public order teams, and plainclothes officers positioned at critical points.
Businesses and hotels expected to host large numbers of tourists and delegations during the summit have also been inspected.
Authorities said no concessions would be made to groups such as beggars, unauthorized parking attendants and touts.
Under the plan, special operations are also being carried out across the province against individuals who have long been wanted. Those captured are being handed over to prison authorities.
Ankara Police Chief Maksut Yuksek inspected the summit security measures on site and instructed teams to carry out checks in crowded public places, parks, open and closed areas, cafes and entertainment venues.
Within this scope, 39 teams and 450 personnel conducted inspections at 215 points, 151 parks and 120 businesses in nine districts.
Authorities said 209 suspects captured in an operation targeting the activities of terrorist organizations are also in custody and that their procedures are continuing.
