A drone believed to be a Ukrainian "Maya" decoy, carrying roughly 5 kilograms of explosives, crashed into a tree and exploded in a rural part of Türkiye's Trabzon province on Wednesday. Gendarmerie units responded to the scene, and while the blast briefly caused panic among the local residents, no injuries or property damage were reported.
The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) came down in the Acikalan neighborhood of Vakfikebir district, striking tree branches before falling on a road.
Initial technical examinations confirmed the presence of explosives on board, and subsequent inspections by teams dispatched to the scene determined the aircraft belonged to Ukraine.
Residents heard the impact and came outside to find drone parts scattered across the area. They notified the gendarmerie forces, who arrived and collected the debris for further examination.
Teams remain on scene as the investigation continues.
The explosion caused no loss of life or property damage because it occurred at a distance from residential areas.
