The Bayraktar Kizilelma unmanned fighter aircraft (UFA) has gained electronic warfare capability that will serve as a force multiplier during missions, with Turkish defense giant Aselsan's FEWS-U Electronic Warfare Suite completing its first flight test after integration.
According to a statement from Aselsan, the FEWS-U Electronic Warfare Suite has been made mission-ready and integrated into the Bayraktar Kizilelma developed by Baykar.
"As a significant force multiplier, FEWS-U Electronic Warfare Suite integrated into Bayraktar Kizilelma and successfully completed its first flight test," Aselsan announced on X.
The FEWS-U system features 360-degree coverage, high accuracy in direction-of-arrival detection and fast threat detection and identification capabilities.
The FEWS-U Electronic Warfare Self-Protection System was developed to enhance the survivability and operational effectiveness of unmanned aerial platforms in modern aerial warfare.
Adapted to the requirements and constraints of unmanned platforms, FEWS-U operates as an integrated system that detects and identifies radar threats targeting the aircraft and applies countermeasures against these threats.
The integration also includes radar warning receiver (RWR) capability, with defense analysts noting that aircraft and missile radar signals have been successfully detected during testing.
The Kizilelma is increasingly taking on characteristics of a manned fighter aircraft as more avionics systems are integrated and tested.
The platform also serves as a testbed for Aselsan, with the development of its electronic warfare suite preparing for the KAAN fifth-generation fighter program.
Aselsan CEO Ahmet Akyol praised the development on social media, stating, "The Aselsan FEWS-U Electronic Warfare Suite developed for our national pride Bayraktar Kizilelma will maximize mission survivability by providing advanced electronic warfare protection against air defense systems and missile threats."
"As one of the first electronic warfare suites developed for unmanned combat aircraft in the world, FEWS-U will be Kizilelma's invisible shield on the battlefield with its capabilities to detect, analyze and neutralize threats," he added.
