President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, offering Türkiye’s support in ending the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel and facilitating a return to nuclear negotiations.
According to a statement released by the Presidential Communications Directorate, Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye is prepared to assume a “facilitating role” to de-escalate tensions and help revive diplomatic channels.
The call focused on regional and global developments, with Erdogan stressing Türkiye’s commitment to peace and stability.
"Türkiye is prepared to play a facilitating role to ensure an immediate end to the clashes and a return to nuclear talks," Erdogan said during the call, according to the official statement. .
He also noted that he had conducted diplomatic discussions with various leaders in pursuit of de-escalation.
The conflict intensified after Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on June 13 targeting military and nuclear facilities in Iran. Among those reported killed were Iran’s Chief of Staff, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), multiple senior commanders, and nine nuclear scientists. Iran reported 224 civilian casualties.
In retaliation, Iran fired 370 ballistic missiles at Israel, striking 30 locations. According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Press Office, the attacks killed 24 people and injured 592, including 10 critically wounded. The majority of the missiles were intercepted.
Several countries, including Türkiye, condemned Israel’s attacks and urged restraint.
