Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed Ankara’s readiness to support diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear dispute, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said Sunday.

During a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump — their second in two days — Erdogan emphasized that diplomacy is the only viable path to resolve the issue and that Türkiye is prepared to take a facilitative role.

Erdogan welcomed Trump’s recent statements on ending the Israel-Iran conflict and establishing peace in the region, stressing the urgent need to prevent a wider catastrophe..

The Turkish president warned that the escalating violence from Israel’s strikes on Iranian targets has caused “irreparable economic and civilian damage” to both sides and urged an end to the dangerous escalation.

Trump, in a Sunday post on Truth Social, said, “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal,” adding that multiple calls and meetings were underway to achieve peace.

U.S.Trump and Turkish President Erdogan also spoke by phone on Saturday, during which Erdogan expressed Türkiye's readiness “to do everything it can to prevent uncontrolled escalation of the tension” between Israel and Iran.

Tensions intensify as strikes continue

The conflict began early Friday (June 13) when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, killing senior commanders and scientists. Israel has continued its attacks, while Iran has responded with missile strikes.

Israeli army said Sunday evening it had detected missile launches from Iran toward Israeli territory, as the ongoing conflict between the two countries escalated further.

The U.S. demands Iran halt uranium enrichment activities, which Western powers view as steps toward nuclear weapons development. Iran maintains its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

A sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran was scheduled Sunday in Muscat but was canceled following the Israeli strikes.
