Erdogan, Singapore’s Wong discuss deeper cooperation in Istanbul

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong discussed Türkiye-Singapore relations as well as regional and global issues during talks in Istanbul on Friday, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said.

Erdogan received Wong at the Presidential Dolmabahce Office, where the Singaporean premier was welcomed with an official ceremony as part of his visit to Türkiye.

Following the ceremony, Erdogan and Wong held bilateral and delegation-level meetings.

According to a statement shared by the Communications Directorate on Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Erdogan said it is important for Türkiye and Singapore to deepen cooperation.

The president said Türkiye would work to develop relations with Singapore in many fields, particularly defense, logistics, aviation, maritime affairs and finance.

Türkiye, Singapore seek broader cooperation

The talks focused on bilateral ties and regional and global developments, according to the statement.

Erdogan said cooperation between Türkiye and Singapore should be strengthened across several sectors.

The statement said Ankara would make efforts to advance relations in defense, logistics, aviation, maritime affairs and finance, among other areas.

The meeting was held at the Presidential Dolmabahce Office as part of Wong’s visit to Türkiye.

Erdogan also said Türkiye is conducting intensive diplomatic efforts to secure lasting peace between Iran and the U.S.

He stressed the importance Türkiye attaches to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Erdogan said Türkiye would continue, together with “brotherly countries,” to make every possible contribution to the process.

The talks came as Türkiye continues diplomatic engagement on regional issues, according to the statement.

Turkish officials attend Istanbul talks

Several Turkish officials also attended the meetings.

Those present included Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran and Chief Adviser to the President on Security and Foreign Policy Akif Cagatay Kilic.

Bilal Erdogan, head of the board of trustees of the Ilim Yayma Foundation, was also included in the talks.
