Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodriguez in Istanbul on Monday, with the two sides discussing ways to deepen cooperation in trade, energy and mining, according to Türkiye's Communications Directorate.
Rodriguez, who is paying a working visit to Türkiye at Erdogan's invitation, held talks with the Turkish president at the Presidential Dolmabahce Office on the shores of the Bosphorus.
In a statement shared on X, the Communications Directorate said Erdogan and Rodriguez discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.
According to the statement, Erdogan said Türkiye would continue to stand by the people of Venezuela and emphasized Ankara's commitment to expanding cooperation with Caracas.
The Turkish president said Türkiye remains determined to further advance bilateral cooperation in many fields, particularly trade, energy and mining.
The two sides also discussed efforts to increase bilateral trade volume to $3 billion, according to the directorate.
Earlier, Erdogan welcomed Rodriguez with an official ceremony before the leaders held both one-on-one and delegation-level meetings.
Rodriguez arrived in Istanbul late Sunday after completing a five-day visit to India. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced her arrival, saying she had come at Erdogan's invitation.
Türkiye and Venezuela have strengthened ties in recent years, signing agreements covering defense, energy, tourism and agriculture. The two countries have also expanded cooperation in the oil, natural gas and mining sectors.
Relations between Ankara and Caracas have deepened steadily over the past decade, particularly in energy cooperation.
Venezuela possesses the world's largest proven oil reserves, while Türkiye has sought to broaden its international energy partnerships and investment opportunities.
The Communications Directorate said the talks reviewed the multidimensional relationship between the two countries and assessed possible steps to further deepen bilateral cooperation, while also addressing current regional and global developments.
