Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to the United Arab Emirates on Monday (May 5) for talks expected to center on bilateral relations and pressing regional issues, Turkish Foreign Ministry sources said Sunday.

Fidan is set to focus on efforts to reestablish a cease-fire in Gaza and secure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave, according to the sources.

The meetings will also address the broader humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with Fidan expected to underline the need to intensify international pressure on Israel to achieve a lasting cease-fire. He will also reiterate Türkiye’s strong opposition to any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland.

Fidan is also expected to urge the international community to take deterrent steps in response to Israel’s ongoing strikes on Syrian territory.Tr

Türkiye's support for Syria's sovereignty

He will reaffirm Türkiye’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and emphasize the importance of lifting international sanctions, which he says have exacerbated living conditions and hindered reconstruction efforts across the war-torn country.

The visit will also include an exchange of views on potential joint initiatives between Türkiye and the UAE aimed at promoting regional peace and stability. Fidan last visited the UAE on Dec. 24–25, 2024.
