The Kaplan Armored Personnel Carrier (Kaplan APC) made its first public appearance at the Indo Defence Expo & Forum 2025 (Indo Defence 2025) in Jakarta, Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in defense cooperation between Türkiye and Indonesia.
According to FNSS, the vehicle prototype was displayed at the PT Pindad stand during the exhibition.
The development follows the successful delivery of KAPLAN MT (HARIMAU) medium-weight class tanks to the Indonesian Army in 2024, manufactured under a long-term cooperation agreement between FNSS and PT Pindad.
Manufacturing activities are expected to begin within the year, with the first vehicle to be produced at FNSS facilities in Türkiye and the second at PT Pindad facilities in Indonesia. Deliveries are planned for the end of 2026.
Back in October 2024, FNSS CEO Nail Kurt, speaking at the SAHA EXPO Defense, Aviation, and Aerospace Industry Fair in Istanbul, outlined the project timeline: "2025 will focus on design and prototyping, while 2026 will involve testing. By the end of 2026, we aim to deliver both vehicles to the Indonesian Army."
The Kaplan APC design architecture provides superior battlefield survivability through advanced ballistic protection, best-in-class mine protection systems, and firepower capabilities.
The vehicle incorporates FNSS' expertise in tracked vehicle design and includes all improvements developed during the Kaplan MT project.
The vehicle can carry a total of 13 personnel, including the gunner, driver and commander. It demonstrates high-speed mobility on both paved/stabilized roads and rough terrain conditions, operating effectively in all climate conditions.
The Kaplan APC achieves speeds exceeding 70 kilometers per hour and offers an operational range of over 450 kilometers, enabling long-distance deployments without refueling requirements.
The vehicle features an open-architecture electronics infrastructure allowing easy integration of various mission equipment, including Combat Management Systems and 360-degree situational awareness cameras providing both day and night vision for the crew.
Kaplan APC is equipped with modular survivability systems to provide effective solutions against changing battlefield threats. It includes protection packages against ballistic, mine, and improvised explosive device threats.
The vehicle also offers active protection system options against anti-tank missiles and rocket-propelled grenades.
Designed with potential integration options for manned or unmanned turret systems, the Kaplan APC can be equipped with light and medium calibers as well as 120mm mortar and ATGM turrets and weapon systems.
This modular design enables the Kaplan APC to be configured for various missions, including mechanized infantry, reconnaissance, command and control, force protection, medical evacuation, recovery, combat engineering, and direct or indirect fire support.
