The 33-year-old German tourist, Friederike Elisabeth Newrzella, has reportedly been missing since Oct. 14 while hiking along the Lycian Way between Kas and Demre in Antalya, southern Türkiye.
According to Demiroren News Agency, Turkish gendarmerie forces and teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) have begun searching for Newrzella, while her relatives have turned to social media to appeal for help in locating her.
The Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), a Turkish volunteer rescue organization, announced that its Kas-Kalkan team had joined the operation and was working out a search plan to locate the missing tourist.
Information shared in missing-person notices identified Newrzella as born on Nov. 27, 1993, standing 1.66 meters (5 feet 5 inches) tall and having no tattoos.
Authorities have urged hiking groups and residents in the area to report any sightings or information about her whereabouts to Türkiye's 112 emergency call center, AFAD or the gendarmerie.
The Lycian Way stretches approximately 760 kilometers (472 miles) from Fethiye in Mugla province to Antalya, passing through ancient settlements, historic Roman roads and coastal landscapes.
According to the Culture Routes Society, the trail is among Türkiye's prominent cultural and nature tourism routes, connecting archaeological sites through historic pathways.
However, sections of the route feature steep slopes, rocky terrain and rugged mountain passages that can make hiking particularly challenging.
