A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall occurred yesterday evening in the Ayazaga neighborhood of Sariyer, causing significant concern among local residents. The incident took place around 7:00 PM on 108th Street, where soil from a residential property slid approximately 20 meters down, impacting several homes below.
Following reports from residents, authorities, including the Sariyer Municipality, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), and the police, responded promptly to the scene.
AFAD teams conducted an on-site assessment and determined that the ground was unstable. Consequently, a total of six buildings were evacuated and sealed as a precautionary measure.
Frustration grew among those affected by the sudden evacuation, with many stating they had no alternative accommodation and that the risk had been reported to municipal authorities repeatedly without any action.
One resident emphasized that sections of the street are effectively built on the edge of a cliff and that she had repeatedly reported the need for a retaining wall to the municipality over the past two decades, but her requests were ignored. Residents also noted that no formal soil or ground survey reports were provided to them during the evacuation process.
Authorities have confirmed that risk assessments and monitoring in the area will continue.
