A Turkish court has acquitted media mogul and Hull City owner Acun Ilicali, along with seven other executives, of charges related to alleged illegal betting advertisements broadcast on TV8 and Exxen.
The case centered on claims that viewers were encouraged to take up illegal betting through advertisements that appeared during some football matches aired on the television channel and digital platform owned by Ilicali.
The ruling was handed down by the Istanbul 25th Criminal Court of First Instance, which decided to acquit all eight defendants, including Ilicali.
The defendants had been on trial over allegations linked to illegal betting promotion, a charge that prosecutors argued was connected to football broadcasts on TV8 and Exxen.
According to the indictment prepared as part of the investigation, prosecutors had requested prison sentences ranging from 1 year and 3 months to 5 years and 3 months for Ilicali and the other defendants.
The court’s decision brings the trial to a close with acquittals for all defendants.
