Gokalp Icer, chairman of the cryptocurrency exchange ICRYPEX, has been arrested Monday in Istanbul after being accused of supplying drugs that allegedly caused an individual to fall into a coma.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into Icer following allegations that he provided narcotics to a victim identified as G.C., who was hospitalized in intensive care and remains in critical condition after consuming the substance on July 14.

After legal proceedings at the Istanbul Courthouse, Icer was referred to the on-duty criminal court of peace with a request for arrest on charges of “supplying narcotics” and “attempted murder with probable intent.” The court formally ruled to place Icer under arrest.

He had been taken into custody on Sunday as part of the ongoing investigation.

In addition to ICRYPEX, Icer also manages multiple ventures, including a CIMA-licensed segregated portfolio company, an FSC-licensed brokerage firm, and an authorized payment institution currently undergoing the licensing process.

ICRYPEX is also listed as a sponsor of Turkish journalist Fatih Altayli’s YouTube channel. Altayli was arrested on June 22 on unrelated charges.
