Ibrahim Kalin, the head of Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT), met with a Hamas delegation in Ankara to discuss the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, with Türkiye reaffirming its commitment to intensifying efforts toward a lasting peace in the territory.
The meeting brought together Kalin and Muhammad Darwish, president of the Hamas Shura Council, along with members of the Hamas Political Bureau, according to security sources. Discussions centered on compliance with the existing ceasefire terms, the progress of ongoing negotiations and steps to prevent further Israeli violations.
The Hamas delegation told Kalin that their side had been adhering to the ceasefire terms and provided a detailed account of what they described as violations committed by Israeli military. The Israeli military's attacks on the Gaza Strip during the Eid al-Adha holiday were specifically raised during the talks.
Participants also addressed what was described as Israel's broader policies of occupation and destabilization targeting the wider region, with particular emphasis on Jerusalem. The meeting emphasized that no fait accompli, a term used to describe unilateral changes imposed on the ground, would be tolerated.
As a guarantor country in the ceasefire framework, Türkiye's role in ensuring the agreement's implementation was a central topic. The discussions covered efforts to hold Israel to its obligations under the first phase of the agreement and the overall trajectory of the negotiation process.
Türkiye's humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza were also reviewed, along with coordinated work with regional countries and international organizations to expand access for further assistance.
The Hamas delegation conveyed its thanks to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Türkiye's sustained engagement on the Gaza file. Both sides underscored that Türkiye would continue to deepen its efforts in pursuit of a durable peace.
