Six suspects, including Sile Mayor Ozgur Kabadayi, were detained Thursday in a corruption probe into the Istanbul district municipality led by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Istanbul, according to authorities.
The investigation involves allegations of establishing a criminal organization, bribery, extortion and bid-rigging, officials said.
Police teams acting on the prosecutor's orders conducted raids and detained the suspects. The operation focused on alleged corruption within the municipal administration.
The Istanbul Anatolia Chief Public Prosecutor's Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau initiated the investigation. The probe targets alleged crimes including "forming an organization to commit crimes," embezzlement, bribery and "interfering with public tenders."
Kabadayi was among six suspects detained during the operation at the Sile municipality.
The mayor and other suspects were taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspects' processing continues at police headquarters. Authorities have not released additional details about the specific timeline or scope of the alleged offenses under investigation.
