Istanbul’s Taksim metro station and the Taksim-Kabatas funicular line were closed to passengers from 10 a.m. until further notice under a decision by the Istanbul Governor’s Office, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality said.

The municipality said the closure affects the Taksim station on the M2 Yenikapi-Haciosman Metro Line and the F1 Taksim-Kabatas Funicular Line.

The measure will remain in place until a second announcement is made, the municipality said in a statement.

M2 trains skip Taksim station

According to the municipality, trains on the M2 Yenikapi-Haciosman Metro Line continue operating but do not stop at the Taksim station.

Passengers using the M2 line need to use other available stations while the closure remains in effect.

The municipality also said all entrances and exits at Shishane station on the M2 line are closed to passengers, except for the Kasimpasa exit.

The statement said the decision was taken in line with the Istanbul Governor’s Office order and will continue until further notice.
