Jordan's King Abdullah II presented Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with Order of Hussein bin Ali on Friday, describing Türkiye's role in reducing regional tensions as vital while pledging to strengthen an 80-year partnership between the two nations.

The award ceremony at the Dolmabahce Working Office in Istanbul followed bilateral and delegation-level meetings between the two leaders, who discussed expanding cooperation across multiple sectors and coordinating efforts to restore stability in the Middle East.

"This medal represents the deep bonds of friendship and brotherhood shared by our countries and peoples," King Abdullah said during the presentation. "It is an expression of appreciation for decades of cooperation between our nations."

Nearly eight decades of partnership

King Abdullah highlighted the historical friendship between Türkiye and Jordan, noting the relationship spans nearly 80 years with significant potential for further development. The leaders reached what Erdogan described as important decisions to strengthen bilateral ties.

"Today's productive meetings represent an important step toward strengthening our bilateral cooperation in trade, industry, education, transportation and defense," King Abdullah said.

President Erdogan expressed his gratitude for the honor, viewing it as a concrete manifestation of the deep historical ties between the two countries and their peoples. He said he believes the distinguished medal will further consolidate the longstanding brotherhood and friendship.

Coordination on Middle East stability

The Jordanian monarch emphasized Türkiye's critical role in ongoing regional diplomatic efforts. "Türkiye's role in ongoing efforts to reduce tensions in the region and preserve the sovereignty of all countries is of vital importance," King Abdullah said. "We continue to maintain close coordination in efforts to restore stability in our region and work toward a just and lasting peace."

Erdogan affirmed alignment with the Jordanian king on ensuring peace, tranquility, security and stability throughout the region. He expressed appreciation for Jordan's efforts as custodian of holy sites in East Jerusalem, a role the Hashemite Kingdom has maintained for decades.

"We saw that we are in agreement with him on the dominance of peace, tranquility, security and stability in every square meter of our region," Erdogan said.

Ramadan greetings exchanged

Both leaders concluded their remarks with greetings for the upcoming Ramadan, which begins in 11 days. King Abdullah wished the holy month would be blessed for everyone, while Erdogan offered congratulations for the sacred month and expressed hope it would open doors to mercy, prosperity and peace for both countries and the entire Islamic world.

Following the medal presentation ceremony, the two leaders attended an official dinner before departing from the office.
