Jordan’s King Abdullah II, the supreme commander of the armed forces, on Saturday issued a directive for the preparation of a three-year transformation strategy for the armed forces.
In a letter to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Ahmed Huneiti, the Jordanian monarch, tasked him with preparing a comprehensive strategy and a road map to achieve a structural transformation in the Jordan Armed Forces, the Arab Army, over the next three years.
King Abdullah stressed in the letter the importance of strengthening the armed forces’ capabilities and continuously developing their capacities and tools to confront current and future threats, rapid changes and emerging challenges, especially in light of technological developments and an expanding operating environment.
He stressed the need for the armed forces to be flexible, agile and highly efficient, with a focus on developing combat doctrine, modernizing command, control and communications systems, expanding investment in cyber and artificial intelligence fields, as well as strengthening defense industries and developing training and armament plans.
The Jordanian monarch said the strategy should include restructuring the armed forces’ affiliated funds and investment companies, in line with the highest professional standards of governance and management.
The king concluded his letter by reaffirming his full support for modernization and development efforts, and his confidence in the armed forces’ ability to deliver the sought-after qualitative shift, so that it remains, as Jordanians have always known it, among the leading military forces distinguished by its efficiency and professionalism.
The directive comes as Jordan pursues broader efforts to bolster readiness and defense capacity. In August 2025, Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II announced the reactivation of the National Military Service Programme, describing it as a way to prepare young Jordanians to serve and defend the country.
