Istanbul Governor’s Office has announced that individuals disturbing others by playing loud music through personal devices in public spaces will now face administrative fines. The measure targets behavior that disrupts public peace in crowded areas such as squares, public transport, beaches, and parks.
According to the statement released by the Governor’s Office, a growing number of public complaints have been received regarding noise caused by personal music broadcasting devices in communal settings. These include transport vehicles, bus stops, picnic areas, and other open spaces where people gather in large numbers.
The authorities emphasized that those who disturb the environment with excessive noise from personal music players in shared spaces will be fined under Article 36 of Türkiye’s Misdemeanours Law No. 5326. This article governs behaviors considered to disrupt public order and peace.
The Governor’s Office also noted that inspections will be stepped up. Local authorities, municipal units, and law enforcement will work together under district governors’ coordination to enforce the new measures and ensure compliance across Istanbul’s public areas.
