Authorities detain 513 in Istanbul operations

In Istanbul, a total of 513 people were detained during inspections on the fourth day of Qurban Bayram, also known as Eid al-Adha, including 205 suspects wanted for various crimes.

The "Peace Istanbul" operation was conducted citywide on Monday in two phases under the coordination of the Istanbul Police Department.

2-phase operation details

In the first phase, a fixed road application was carried out between 8 and 10 p.m. local time at 215 points with the participation of 1,414 personnel. A police helicopter and five boats belonging to the Sea Port Branch Directorate also provided support.

In the second phase, public places were inspected between 10 and 12 p.m. with the participation of 1,341 personnel.

Within the scope of the operation, General Information Collection (GBT) queries were conducted on 302,287 people.

A total of 513 people were detained, including 205 suspects wanted for various crimes. In addition to the detainees, during the inspections, 23 unlicensed pistols, two rifles, four blank pistols and 63 cartridges were seized, along with 782 grams of narcotics, 25 narcotic pills, and ₺97,890 ($2,400) assessed to have been obtained from drug trafficking.

Teams inspected 175 public business premises, with proceedings applied to two business establishments, and action taken against seven foreign nationals.

In traffic inspections, 39,687 vehicles and 2,655 motorcycles were controlled. Proceedings were initiated against 1,471 vehicles and motorcycles and 10 drivers, while five vehicles were banned from traffic.

During the inspections, a total of ₺1.02 million in traffic fines were issued.
