President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone Tuesday with Hungary's incoming Prime Minister Peter Magyar, congratulating him on his election victory and expressing confidence that Türkiye-Hungary cooperation will advance further in the new period.
The Turkish president also stressed the shared historical and cultural foundations of bilateral ties and highlighted NATO's contribution to regional and global peace, according to Türkiye's Communications Directorate.
According to the Communications Directorate statement, Erdogan told Magyar that the strength of Türkiye-Hungary relations comes from "shared history and culture," and expressed belief that cooperation between the two countries, both bilaterally and on international platforms, "will be taken further in the new period."
Erdogan also stated his desire to advance their existing strategic partnership further and underlined that their shared NATO membership contributes to "regional and global peace."
The two leaders also discussed regional and global developments during the call.
Magyar's Tisza party took a wide lead over Viktor Orban's ruling party in Sunday's elections, according to Hungarian election officials.
Orban conceded defeat, saying: "We will serve our nation from the opposition."
Erdogan congratulated Magyar on his success in the elections during the phone call.
