Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with U.S. President Donald Trump on late Tuesday on the sidelines of the NATO Leaders’ Summit in The Hague, where the two discussed bilateral relations, defense cooperation, and global conflicts, including those in the Middle East and Ukraine.
According to a statement from Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, Erdogan emphasized the vast potential for cooperation between Türkiye and the United States in key areas such as energy and investment.
He noted that enhancing collaboration in the defense industry would help both nations reach their target of $100 billion in bilateral trade.
Erdogan welcomed the cease-fire brokered between Israel and Iran, facilitated by Trump, and expressed hope that it would become permanent.
He also stressed the urgency of ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and highlighted the need for sustained dialogue to peacefully resolve the Russia-Ukraine war.
As two of NATO’s leading allies, Erdogan and Trump underscored the importance of strengthening the alliance’s deterrence and maintaining strategic unity in the face of regional and global threats.
Erdogan arrived in the Netherlands earlier Tuesday to attend the two-day NATO summit. He landed at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, where he was received by Dutch officials, Türkiye’s Ambassador to NATO Basat Ozturk, and Turkish Ambassador to The Hague Selcuk Unal.

Accompanying Erdogan are Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief Ibrahim Kalin, Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and Akif Cagatay Kilic, the president’s top foreign policy and security adviser.
On Tuesday evening, Erdogan attended a dinner hosted by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Queen Maxima in honor of NATO heads of state and government and their spouses.
Erdogan is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders during the summit, which is focused on addressing strategic threats and risks facing the Euro-Atlantic region.
The two-day NATO summit is scheduled to conclude Wednesday.
