United States President Donald Trump announced Monday that Iran and Israel have agreed to a cease-fire, set to begin at approximately 0400 GMT Tuesday, with Iran initiating the truce first, followed by Israel 12 hours later.
Trump shared the development in a post on Truth Social platform, stating: “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE.”
"It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!", Trump wrote.
No immediate confirmation came from Israeli or Iranian officials regarding the reported agreement.
However, a senior Iranian official told CNN that Iran has not received any cease-fire proposal and sees no reason for one.
“At this very moment, the enemy is committing aggression against Iran, and Iran is on the verge of intensifying its retaliatory strikes, with no ear to listen to the lies of its enemies,” the official said.
The announcement came amid ongoing hostilities between the two countries. A series of powerful explosions rocked Tehran in the early hours of Tuesday, according to AFP correspondents on the scene.
The blasts occurred around 2155 GMT, shortly after the Israeli army issued an evacuation alert for residents in central Tehran, publishing a map that showed an evacuation zone covering part of District 7.
At the same time, Iranian strikes on Israel also continued. Iranian media reported late Monday that authorities urged residents in the Israeli city of Ramat Gan, located east of Tel Aviv, to evacuate.
This followed Iran launching a barrage of missiles at the U.S. military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday, marking a dramatic escalation after the U.S. targeted three Iranian nuclear sites Sunday.
The U.S. attacks were the latest escalation in a U.S.-backed Israeli military assault on Iran since June 13, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.
