Prominent Turkish actor Can Yaman detained in Istanbul drug operation

Prominent Turkish actor Can Yaman and actress Selen Gorguzel were among seven people detained overnight in an Istanbul drug operation that saw raids on nine nightclubs, as the investigation into celebrities and drug offenses expanded.

Can Yaman and Selen Gorguzel will be taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for blood tests, sources cited by the Turkish media outlets said on Saturday.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Smuggling, Narcotics and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau is conducting the investigation.

Police raids on 9 nightclubs in Istanbul

Police teams, acting on the prosecutor's instructions after midnight, raided nine separate nightclubs in Istanbul. Drugs were found at some of the venues during the raids.

The owners and managers of these venues, as well as individuals linked to the drugs found, were detained.

It was learned that there was a tip-off and statement alleging that Can Yaman used drugs.

4 detained at Bebek Hotel

Gendarmerie teams conducted a three-hour search at a Bebek shore hotel, raided again as part of the investigation following the Jan. 5 drug operation.

Six drug-sniffing dogs participated in the search. Teams left the hotel after placing some materials they collected into evidence bags.

Selen Gorguzel, Ayse Saglam, former presenter Nilufer Batur Tokgoz, and Ceren Alper were detained in the operation at the hotel, which is owned by arrested producer Muzaffer Yildirim.

Gorguzel had returned to Türkiye from abroad two days ago.

While gendarmerie teams searched Bebek Hotel, Narcotics Bureau police from the Istanbul Police Department conducted a search at Klein Phonix, one of Istanbul's most prominent nightclubs.

The investigation covers charges of "possessing drugs or stimulants for personal use," "facilitating drug use," and "encouraging a person to prostitution, facilitating this, or mediating or providing a place for prostitution."

19 arrested in Jan. 5 operation

In the Jan. 5 operation, 23 suspects, including actor Dogukan Gungor and social media influencer Burak Altindag, were detained in operations in Istanbul, Izmir, Denizli, and Mugla.

Seven people were released with house arrest conditions, while 19 people, including Muzaffer Yildirim were arrested.

Those arrested on Jan. 7 include: Suat Yildiz, Berna Araci, Gulsum Bayrak, Hakan Yildiz, Koray Bezli, Lerma Elmas, Merve Eryigit, Merve Uslu, Veysel Avci, Arif Altunbulak, Burak Altindag, Ceyda Ersoy, Duygu Aciksoz, Ece Cerenbelli, Gizem Ozkoroglu, Nevin Simsek, Ozge Bitmez, and Sevgi Tastan.

One suspect, Bulent Tetik, was determined to be in prison for another crime, while two others were found to be abroad.
