A suspect wanted internationally by Dutch authorities through a Red Notice was captured in Istanbul’s Pendik district in an international narcotics operation, Istanbul police said.
The suspect, identified by the initials W.A.L., was detained in an operation carried out in Pendik, according to a statement shared by the Istanbul Police Department on social media.
Police said the suspect was wanted at the international level by authorities in the Netherlands.
The Istanbul Police Department described the operation as an “international narcotics operation.”
According to police, W.A.L. was found to have been involved in cocaine trafficking with his brother, identified as J.L., who was described as the leader of an international criminal organization.
Police also said the suspect was involved in laundering proceeds obtained from crime.
The statement did not provide further details about the timing of the operation or the suspect’s legal process after his capture.
The Istanbul Police Department said its fight against drug traffickers was also a fight to protect future generations.
“Our fight against poison traffickers is a fight to protect our generations,” police said.
“We will not let them steal our youth and our future,” the statement added.
The operation came as Istanbul police said they were continuing efforts against drug trafficking and organized crime.
