Seven people were shot dead and one was wounded in attacks across several villages in the Ihsaniye district of Afyonkarahisar province in central Türkiye, and security forces are searching for a suspect who fled in a red commercial vehicle.

Gendarmerie teams were sent to the area after the 112 emergency call center received a report of a shooting injury. Authorities have not said what led to the attacks.

Victims found in three villages

Officials found three people shot dead in the Ayazini village area and two more killed in the Kiyir village area. Three women were found wounded in Yukaritandir village and were taken to hospitals. Two of them died despite medical treatment, bringing the death toll to seven. One person remains wounded.

Five of the victims were killed with a shotgun, according to the findings so far.

Suspect seen fleeing in red vehicle

Authorities determined that the suspect left the scene in a red light commercial vehicle. Early assessments suggest the suspect came from outside the province, and investigators are examining the possibility that the vehicle headed toward neighboring Kutahya.

The initial reports referred to a suspect or suspects, and it was not clear from the information available whether more than one person was involved.

Gendarmerie teams closed the roads leading to the villages where the killings took place. Police and gendarmerie units have launched a large-scale operation to find the suspect, and the search is continuing.

Afyonkarahisar is a province in central Türkiye. In rural areas such as Ihsaniye’s villages, the gendarmerie, rather than the police, generally handles public security and first response.
