New details have emerged in the investigation into an attack near a high school in Turgutlu, Manisa, where 11 students were injured, as authorities look into the 15-year-old suspect's access to the weapon, ammunition, and statements he allegedly made before the shooting.
The number of people detained in connection with the investigation has risen to nine, including the suspect, his parents, grandparents, three cousins and the owner of the hunting supplies shop where ammunition was reportedly purchased.
Investigators also recovered personal notes, a manifesto and other materials from the teenager's room, while his mobile phone, which had been reset before the attack, was taken in for examination.
Investigators determined that the suspect, identified as Halil O., had allegedly told one of his cousins around a month before the attack that he planned to carry out an action involving a shotgun.
According to the investigation file, the statement was not taken seriously at the time.
Authorities also established that the teenager had carried out shooting practice with two other cousins before the attack.
The ammunition was reportedly bought with ₺600 that the suspect received from his grandmother. The shotgun used in the attack was registered in his grandmother's name and was taken from his grandfather's home.
During a search of the suspect's home, investigators found notes in which he had drawn up a structure he called the "Socialist Communist Party," written about social issues, and prepared a manifesto.
A Nazi emblem was also found in his room, while investigators determined that he had taken an interest in the ideas and works of British Marxist historian Eric John Ernest Hobsbawm.
Other notes indicated that the teenager admired Joe Goldberg, the central character in the Netflix series "You."
Investigators clarified that the shooting did not take place inside the school or directly at its entrance, but along a route used by students walking to the campus.
The suspect fired three shots at different points between roughly 80 and 100 meters from the school, according to technical findings cited in the investigation.
A total of 11 students were injured in the attack. Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said three students remained under treatment in intensive care.
Following the incident, officials from the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of National Education traveled to Turgutlu and set up a crisis coordination center.
The Interior Ministry assigned two civil administration inspectors and two police chief inspectors to the case, while the Education Ministry appointed three inspectors. The Family and Social Services Ministry also sent a 25-member psychosocial support team to the area.
Separately, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into provocative social media posts related to the attack.
