Turkish and German business leaders will convene Monday in Düsseldorf for a high-level roundtable discussion aimed at strengthening economic ties between Türkiye and Germany's most populous state.

The Türkiye-Germany Roundtable Meeting, organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEIK), the Türkiye-Germany Business Council, the German-Turkish Business Council (DTWR), and NRW Global Business Investment and Development Agency, will bring together senior executives from both countries for the first time at this level.

North Rhine-Westphalia State Premier Hendrik Wust is expected to attend the gathering, according to a statement from DEIK.

The agenda will cover key sectors including energy, infrastructure, and supply chains, along with discussion of major projects that could reshape economic cooperation between the two nations.

North Rhine-Westphalia emerges as key economic partner

North Rhine-Westphalia, often described as Germany's economic heartland, boasts an economy larger than many European Union member states. The state leads Germany in both population and gross domestic product, making it a crucial partner for Turkish business interests in Europe.

Mehmet Ali Yalcindag, chairman of DEIK's Türkiye-Germany Business Council, outlined ambitious goals for the meeting. "We aim to increase our bilateral trade volume to 250 billion euros within 10 years," he said, noting that current trade stands at approximately 50 billion euros.

To support this objective, Turkish business leaders have prepared a report in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group's offices in Türkiye and Germany. "We will present the report to State Premier Wust and announce it to the press soon," Yalcindag said.

Partnership deemed essential amid global uncertainty

Yalcindag emphasized the strategic importance of cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in defense, energy, and supply chains. "In this period of global uncertainty, a Türkiye-Germany partnership is not an option but a necessity to bring the European economy to a safe harbor," he said.

The meeting represents a significant diplomatic and economic engagement as both nations navigate shifting global trade patterns and geopolitical challenges. Türkiye, a NATO member and EU candidate country, has long maintained strong economic ties with Germany, home to a large Turkish diaspora.
