Turkish customs authorities seized 51 long-barreled rifles and 41 magazines from the fuel tank of a truck entering the country from Syria through the Akcakale district of Sanliurfa.
According to a written statement from the Akcakale District Governorate, customs protection, smuggling and intelligence directorate teams conducted a detailed search of a suspicious truck entering Türkiye from Syria.
"The Akcakale Customs Protection Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams conducted a detailed search of a suspicious truck entering Türkiye from Syria. Fifty-one long-barreled rifles and 41 magazines were seized from the truck's fuel tank," the statement said.
The truck driver, identified as A.B., was taken into custody pending investigation.
The seizure represents a significant interdiction of weapons smuggling through the Akcakale border crossing, which serves as a major transit point between Syria and Türkiye.
