Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to visit Qatar on Tuesday, according to officials from the Foreign Ministry.
During his meetings, Fidan is expected to review preparations for the 12th meeting of the High Strategic Committee, scheduled to be held in Türkiye later this year under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Fidan is also expected to reaffirm Türkiye’s solidarity with Qatar following recent attacks in March and April.
According to the sources, he will underline Ankara’s sensitivity regarding the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing its critical importance for regional security and economic stability.
The Turkish foreign minister is also expected to emphasize that recent regional developments have once again demonstrated the growing importance of cooperation in the military and defense sectors.
He is expected to highlight that joint efforts in connectivity projects are strategically important for regional stability.
Fidan is expected to stress that resolving Gulf disputes through a lasting settlement remains an urgent priority and to exchange views on ongoing diplomatic initiatives.
He is also expected to underline the need to strengthen regional cooperation based on the ownership of regional actors in addressing conflicts and instability, particularly amid what Ankara describes as Israel’s destabilizing actions in the region.
According to the sources, Fidan will draw attention to the need to convey more strongly to the international community the humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
He is also expected to caution against policies by the Israeli government that undermine peace efforts.
Fidan is expected to stress that preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid continued Israeli attacks is essential to preventing further regional instability.
Türkiye and Qatar maintain close bilateral ties under a strategic partnership framework established in 2014.
The High Strategic Committee, the top institutional mechanism in Türkiye-Qatar relations, has convened annually since 2015 under the leadership of Erdogan and Sheikh Tamim, alternating between the two countries.
So far, 11 committee meetings have been held, resulting in 115 agreements across various sectors.
Bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached $1.15 billion in 2025.
The Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement between Türkiye and Qatar entered into force on Aug. 1, 2025.
Both countries aim to increase bilateral trade volume to $5 billion in the coming period.
