Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will pay an official visit to South Korea on June 4, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.
During the visit, Fidan is expected to hold talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and deliver a speech at a conference hosted by Korea University.
According to diplomatic sources, the visit will focus on further deepening the strategic partnership between Türkiye and South Korea, strengthening economic and trade ties, and exploring ways to expand mutual investments.
The two sides are also expected to discuss updating the existing Free Trade Agreement, cooperation in the reconstruction of Ukraine, Syria and Palestine, and potential joint projects in Central Asia and Africa.
Talks are expected to cover partnership and investment opportunities in nuclear and renewable energy, as well as cooperation in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technologies, biotechnology, next-generation battery systems and transportation infrastructure.
Fidan is also expected to review defense industry cooperation, including the Altay tank project, and discuss potential collaboration on UAV and armed UAV systems.
The ministers are expected to exchange views on a range of regional and global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine war, Iran, Palestine, Syria and developments in East Asia.
Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and South Korea were established in 1957 and elevated to a strategic partnership in 2012.
Bilateral trade reached $11.3 billion in 2025. South Korea’s total direct investment in Türkiye has exceeded $3.5 billion, while annual direct investment stands at around $400 million.
More than 430 South Korean-owned companies currently operate in Türkiye.
The ninth meeting of the Türkiye-South Korea Joint Economic and Technical Cooperation Commission was held in Seoul in February 2026.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last visited South Korea in 2018.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung paid an official visit to Türkiye in 2025, during which five agreements were signed and a joint statement on the strategic partnership was issued.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun also visited Türkiye on Jan. 21, 2026.
