Ibrahim Kalin, head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT), traveled to the Syrian capital of Damascus for official talks and was received by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, according to security sources on Wednesday.
The meeting focused on bilateral ties, regional security issues, and recent developments. Both sides underlined the importance of Syria’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, political stability, and social peace.
During the talks, Kalin reiterated that Türkiye will continue to stand by Syria. He also stressed Ankara’s readiness to provide any necessary support to the new Syrian government in its struggle against internal and external threats.
The two sides discussed joint efforts against the Daesh terrorist group, as well as measures to strengthen institutional capacity in Syria. Topics included border security, customs management, improvements in economic conditions, and the safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees.
