Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has captured a Daesh suicide bomber who was assigned to carry out attacks targeting civilians in Türkiye and Europe, apprehending him in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and bringing him to Türkiye.
The suspect, identified as Mehmet Goren, codenamed "Yahya," is a Turkish national who rose to a managerial position within Daesh-Khorasan Province (Daesh-K) after traveling to the Afghanistan-Pakistan area to join the terrorist organization.
MIT said Goren had accepted assignments to conduct suicide attacks targeting civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Türkiye and Europe on behalf of Daesh.
"The operation thwarted Daesh attack plans targeting Türkiye and exposed the organization's recruitment network," MIT said.
According to the Turkish intelligence agency, Goren took an active role in Daesh camps and rose to a managerial position over time.
The captured terrorist was found to have worked with Ozgur Altun, codenamed "Abu Yasir al-Turki," who played an active role in transferring terrorist organization members from Türkiye to the Afghanistan-Pakistan region. Altun was previously captured and brought to Türkiye, where he was arrested.
MIT also stated that Goren had survived airstrikes targeting Daesh elements in Pakistan before his capture.
Following sensitive intelligence work, Turkish intelligence determined Goren's current location in the Afghanistan-Pakistan area and apprehended him.

The group has sought to recruit foreign fighters, including Turkish nationals, for operations in the region and abroad.
