Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief, Ibrahim Kalin, visited Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, meeting with Pakistani Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Asim Malik, according to Turkish security sources.
Kalin traveled to Islamabad following an earlier visit to Afghanistan, the sources said.
He was also received by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the visit.
The meetings addressed the current state of bilateral relations between Türkiye and Pakistan and future cooperation opportunities, alongside regional and global developments, according to the sources.
Discussions covered the security balance that has emerged in the Middle East following the U.S./Israel-Iran war and rising regional tensions, along with the political, security and economic repercussions of the conflict for regional countries, including the risk of hostilities spreading to other countries and regions.
Recent tensions and incidents between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, and the risks they pose to regional stability, were also among the topics discussed.
The talks highlighted the importance of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement as a framework for consensus among its parties in restoring regional stability, and pointed to Türkiye and Pakistan's role in reducing tensions and keeping diplomatic channels for resolution open.
The sources said Türkiye would continue making every effort to help resolve tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan through dialogue, as it has in the past.
The two sides also agreed to further develop their existing high-level security and intelligence cooperation, with Türkiye's continued support for Pakistan's counterterrorism efforts and capacity-building underscored.
Kalin's trip to Pakistan followed visits to Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, and the city of Kandahar, according to Turkish security sources.
In Kabul, Kalin met his counterpart, Abdul Haq Wasiq, head of Afghanistan's General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI).
Kalin also held meetings with senior officials from Afghanistan's interim administration, including Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, and Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
Those talks focused on steps to deepen security and intelligence cooperation between Türkiye and Afghanistan, alongside broader bilateral relations.
The officials also discussed regional and global developments, particularly the U.S.-Israel-Iran war, as well as efforts to combat terrorism, human smuggling, and drug trafficking.
