Congestion increased on the D-100 highway, the TEM Highway, and connecting roads on the Anatolian and European sides of the city because of rain that began yesterday evening.
On the Anatolian Side, congestion on the D-100 in the Edirne direction extends from Kartal to the entrance of the Eurasia Tunnel, while in the opposite direction, traffic starting from Goztepe is intermittently heavy as far as Kartal.
Vehicles are also moving with difficulty on the section of the TEM Highway between Sultanbeyli and Camlica.
On crossings to the European Side, traffic on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge starts from the Uzuncayir area, and on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge from Kozyatagi.
Congestion formed after two lanes of the Coastal Road were closed to traffic in the Pendik area in the Kartal direction because of rainwater accumulation.
On the European Side, two-way congestion is being experienced on the D-100 around Avcilar, Yenibosna, Cevizlibag, the Halic Bridge, Okmeydani and Mecidiyekoy.
On the TEM Highway in the Ankara direction, vehicles are moving slowly in the Ispartakule, Bahcesehir, Hasdal and Seyrantepe areas, while traffic flows smoothly in the opposite direction.
Two-way congestion is also being experienced on Buyukdere Avenue in the Zincirlikuyu direction and on Basin Ekspres Road. Crowds also formed at public transport stops.
According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) traffic map, citywide congestion rose to 80%. It was measured at 89% on the Anatolian Side and 71% on the European Side.
