Turkish Naval Forces sailed a convoy of 13 ships and 2 submarines through the Bosphorus on Sunday to mark the 488th anniversary of the Preveze Naval Victory and Naval Forces Day.
TCG Istanbul, Türkiye's first domestically built frigate, took part in the procession organized by the Ministry of National Defense.
The ship rendered a salute as it passed off the coast of the Barbaros Monument in Besiktas.
Soldiers aboard the ship stood at attention facing the Tomb of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha during the passage.
The convoy also included the TCG Savarona, TCG Orucreis, TCG Salihreis, TCG Heybeliada, TCG Buyukada, TCG Kalkan, TCG Mizrak, TCG Ruzgar, TCG Karayel, TCG Akcay, TCG Enez and TCG Isin. The TCG Doganay and TCG 18 Mart submarines also accompanied the convoy.
As part of the 488th anniversary of the Preveze Naval Victory and Naval Forces Day, a wreath was laid at the Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Monument.
During the ceremony, which included a moment of silence and the reading of the national anthem, Northern Naval Area Commander Vice Admiral Ramazan Ozogul signed the monument's special guest book. Congratulatory messages were also read at the event.
Afterward, officials visited the tomb of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha. Istanbul Deputy Governor Mehmet Sulun, along with other officials and residents, attended the program, during which the tomb's guest book was also signed.
