Türkiye arrests 361 suspects in nationwide anti-FETO operations

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced Monday that 361 suspects linked to Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) were arrested during operations in 46 provinces over last two weeks.

Operations targeted key FETO structures including current organization, military confidential units, financial networks, and education branches. Suspects accused of communicating with FETO leaders via payphones, using encrypted messaging app ByLock, spreading propaganda on social media, and manipulating exam processes to gain unfair advantages.

Yerlikaya noted among those detained were individuals with finalized prison sentences and active arrest warrants related to FETO investigations. Minister thanked security forces and all personnel involved in operations.

Background: The Gulenist Terror Group (FETO)

Gulenist Terror Group (FETO) has clandestinely conducted its activities in Türkiye since the 1960s, culminating in the coup attempt of July 15, 2016 which resulted in the death of 252 people and left 2,735 others injured. The attempt was foiled by a rare instance of public resistance to putschists. Since 2016, FETO has been recognized as a terrorist organization by the likes of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Pakistan. The group’s leader, Fetullah Gulen, past away October 20, 2024 in the United States.
