Turkish authorities arrested 1,933 people in extensive anti-drug operations conducted across 72 provinces over the past two weeks, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Saturday.
The nationwide crackdown targeting drug dealers resulted in the seizure of 927 kilograms of narcotics and 1.296 million drug pills, Yerlikaya said in a statement posted on his social media account.
The operations involved 3,720 teams comprising 6,130 personnel, supported by 21 aircraft and 62 narcotic detection dogs, according to the Interior Minister's announcement.
The coordinated raids took place in major cities including Bursa, Adana, Gaziantep, Izmir, Konya, Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Mersin, Samsun, Diyarbakir, and Sanliurfa, among others.
Yerlikaya praised the collaborative efforts of various agencies involved in the operations.
"I congratulate our governors, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices that coordinated the operations, our General Directorate of Security Narcotics Crime Prevention Department, and our provincial police chiefs and officers who carried out the operations," Yerlikaya said.
The Interior Minister emphasized the broader significance of the anti-drug campaign beyond law enforcement concerns.
"The fight against drugs, which is a global disaster, is not only a security issue but also an issue of our future," he stated.
