Travelers entering Türkiye can bring in clothing intended for their personal use without counting it toward the country's €430 customs exemption limit, according to a clarification issued by the Ministry of Trade on Monday.

The exemption applies to gifts and other items not intended for personal use, while travelers under the age of 15 are subject to a lower allowance of €150.

The ministry outlined the rules to clarify which belongings fall outside the standard customs value threshold and when additional taxes may apply.

Personal clothing falls outside customs allowance

Under the rules, clothing brought into Türkiye for a traveler's own use does not count toward the €430 exemption, meaning such items are assessed separately from gifts and other goods subject to the value limit.

However, the exemption only covers belongings intended for personal use, and products brought in commercial quantities or with commercial characteristics are not eligible for the passenger baggage exemption.

Gifts face value limits, while excess amounts may be taxed

Unlike personal clothing, gifts and other goods not intended for personal use fall under the €430 exemption for travelers aged 15 and older.

For passengers younger than 15, the corresponding limit is €150.

When the applicable threshold is exceeded, customs duties may be imposed under the relevant regulations, depending on the amount exceeding the allowance and the type of goods involved.

Electronic devices remain subject to separate restrictions

The ministry also clarified that the customs exemption does not allow travelers to bring unlimited mobile phones, computers or other electronic devices into Türkiye.

These products remain subject to separate customs rules and restrictions, regardless of the general exemption for passenger belongings.
