Türkiye’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Wednesday that 169 human smugglers and 783 irregular migrants were apprehended during nationwide inspections across all 81 provinces.
In a statement on his X account, Yerlikaya said the inspections targeted migrant smugglers and irregular migrants across the country.
He reported that 169 migrant smugglers, 132 of whom were foreign nationals, were detained, and identity checks were conducted on 430,454 people, leading to the identification of 783 irregular migrants.
Yerlikaya said 27,347 personnel and 8,690 teams took part in the operations at 5,761 checkpoints, where 6,897 public venues, 3,892 abandoned buildings, and 457 terminals were inspected.
He added that deportation procedures have begun for the irregular migrants, stating, “Türkiye presents a model to the entire world in migration management—one that respects human rights and freedoms, adheres to the rule of law and civilizational values, and never compromises public order and security. I congratulate everyone who contributed to this effort.”
