Türkiye and Egypt signed a letter of intent (LoI) on Monday to establish a framework for closer cooperation in the defense industry, Turkish Defense Industries Secretary Haluk Gorgun said.
Gorgun hosted Egyptian Defense and Military Production Minister Lt. Gen. Ashraf Salem Zaher and his delegation at the Secretariat of Defense Industries in Ankara.
In a statement posted on X, Gorgun said the two sides discussed opportunities for defense industry cooperation and possible areas for joint capability development.
"In this context, we signed a Letter of Intent that will define the framework of our cooperation in the period ahead," he said.
"I believe that further cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt in the field of defense industry will contribute to regional security and mutual capability development," Gorgun said, thanking Zaher and his delegation for what he described as productive discussions.
Earlier the same day, Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler met with Zaher, who also serves as commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
Guler welcomed Zaher, who was visiting Türkiye as his official guest, with a military ceremony at the National Defense Ministry. Following the playing of both countries' national anthems, Zaher inspected the guard of honor before the two ministers held closed-door talks.
